The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture launches a new YouTube Channel

NMPRAC’s new online educational video program provides a platform for Puerto Rican artists to connect remotely with communities in Chicago and beyond. This initiative was born out of the museum’s efforts to continue promoting and preserving Puerto Rican arts and culture in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The videos are available on the museum’s new YouTube Channel covering a wide range of topics, they provide family-friendly art tutorials,  artist talks and art therapy sessions. The content ranges from doodling, to time-lapse painting, to a pointillism demonstration, and more!

The video program kicks off with a special digital reading of a new illustrated book by Y No Había Luz, a theatre group based in Puerto Rico focused on promoting Puerto Rican culture through arts education. You may remember them from a previous exhibit at our museum, Circo de la Ausencia. Their video offers an English narration of the book “The Mango Tree Sentinel.” The book presents a magical ecological story that inspires us to take care of our planet.

A special thank you to Cecilia Marrero for her wonderful narration and to Y No Habia Luz for always finding ways to make us think about Puerto Rico and the environment!
