Leonardo Garcia was born in Miami, FL of Colombian parents and had moved within the US and Europe, and he had his beginnings in the musical field as a guitarist and drummer. During his later teen years, he lived in Germany and performed with an alternative rock band as a keyboardist. Having traveled back to Colombia to visit family since his childhood, he searched for his musical roots and experience the music of our Latin rhythm and the swing of the Caribbean.
Having studied classical music and Jazz abroad, and returning to the Washington, DC area in the early 80s, he continued to study jazz, composition and arranging where he quickly gravitated to Latin Jazz artists from the styles of Chick Corea, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Machito, Paquito D’Rivera, Ray Barreto and Louie Ramirez, and many others.
Leonardo continued as a recording artist, recording his own material, Latin jazz, rock/fusion and on many other projects in the DC area.
Although Leonardo keeps busy with live performances in the DC area and salsa scene, as well as working on various recording projects. The latest production named “Leonardo Garcia” is available on all digital platforms. This album contains a compilation of songs composed over the years in a jazz fusion format now has been rearranged and realized in a big band salsa jazz genre.
