KYEN?ES?, The exciting concept and ultimate homage to music brought to life by Saban Music Group earlier this year returns with the release of “El Año Viejo” just in time for this Holiday Season. “El Año Viejo” by KYEN?ES?, is a reimagined version of the classic End-of-the-Year song composed by Cresencio Salcedo, a Colombian songwriter and made famous by Mexican singer Tony Camargo.
The song speaks of remembering the great experiences throughout the previous year, maintaining a positive attitude, and being grateful for the great things in life, something to keep in mind as we close 2020, a year filled with unpredictability and turmoil.
Initially released in 1953, this song grew to become Tony’s signature track and defined a career of more than 60 years of performing and recording. Camargo recorded “El Año Viejo” in Mexico, accompanied by the orchestra led by maestro Chucho Rodríguez. It is considered among the cornerstones of Mexican Tropical music and quickly gained popularity worldwide in different languages. The song traditionally plays all over Latin America during the month of December and has been part of Latin American End-of-the-Year celebrations and danced for over 60 years! Tony Camargo passed away on August 5, 2020, at the age of ninety-four.
“El Año Viejo” continues to stand the test of time with over 10M streams/views across digital partners and KYEN?ES? ‘s reimagined fun and lively version of this classic is guaranteed to extend this success for many more years to come.
As the ultimate homage to music, KYEN?ES?, is an exciting, new concept by Saban Music Group (SMG) that focuses on musical performances.
KYEN?ES? from the Spanish phrase ‘Quien es?’ or “Who is?’ is about the experience of music—the songs, sounds, and culture that resonate with audiences worldwide. This inspiring movement encourages all generations and cultures to immerse themselves in eclectic genres via original interpretations, covers, and medleys of iconic artists’ hit songs.
In July 2020, with the first major release, “El Carnaval De Celia: A Tribute,” KYEN?ES? drew inspiration from La Reina de la Salsa, Celia Cruz, releasing a medley that included three timeless hit songs—”La Vida Es Un Carnaval,” “La Negra Tiene Tumbao,” and “Rie y Llora.” Within 48 hours of its release, “El Carnaval De Celia: A Tribute” was the most added song on Latin radio. On the Billboard Charts, “El Carnaval De Celia: A Tribute” peaked at #37 on the Hot Latin Songs Chart, peaked at #5 on the Latin Airplay Chart, and reached the #1 spot on the Tropical Chart.
The success of the Premier project earned KYEN?ES? an opportunity to close out Univision’s Premios Juventud on August 13, 2020, to a show-stopping performance, and most recently, it was added to Amazon’s best of 2020 Tropical playlists in over 40 countries.
Always evolving, KYEN?ES? continues to stay faithful by spotlighting iconic musical works through reimagination and reinterpretation.
