Japanese American singer Karuna Shinsho, known for her smooth and soothing vocal interpretations of jazz standards and bossa nova songs, releases her new, full CD To Love Again on August 25th!
Exposed to classical music as a child in Hawaii, Shinsho later fell in love with jazz in Japan after seeing the late Nancy Wilson’s show. She also became obssessed with bossa nova after hearing the music of João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim.
Shinsho started her career as an award-winning international broadcast journalist, but immersed herself in the world of music as a way to heal from a challenging period later in life. During that time, she also met world-renowned musician/composer Nanny Assis who, recognizing her talent and passion, agreed to produce her first album of bossa nova songs and standards from the Great American Songbook.
To Love Again boasts an eclectic array of songs sung in three languages. Shinsho’s debut album is a culmination of three years of her dedicated work. She says “this was only possible because my producer Nanny believed in me, when I didn’t even believe in myself. I hope that listeners will feel the love and passion I put into the album and that the music will bring them joy.”
