Telemundo announced today the first Latin music stars to perform at the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The extraordinary line-up includes popular pop artists Jesse & Joy, leading urban artists Ozuna, Wisin, Farruko, Gente de Zona, Sech and Myke Towers; joined by renowned international group Black Eyed Peas, and Regional Mexican artist Gerardo Ortiz. The most prestigious and longest-running awards show in Latin music will be broadcast LIVE on Telemundo on Wednesday, October 21 starting at 7pm/6c with the red carpet pre-show followed at 8pm/7c by the three-hour awards show from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
In one of the most awaited performances, Ozuna, who for the second consecutive year is the top finalist with 14 mentions, will hit the stage of the coveted award ceremony to present a worldwide premiere for all his fans. The Puerto Rican star is enjoying a successful year with two number one spots on Billboard’s Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts with his single “Fantasia” from his album Nibiru. Most recently Ozuna launched the album ENOC, which includes the hit “Caramelo,” No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart.
Ozuna will also join in an exciting collaboration with re-energized American group Black Eyed Peas, to perform together for the first time on television. Black Eyed Peas successful album Translation, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, featured hits such as “Mamacita,” and “Ritmo,” with J Balvin, which marked the group’s first top 40 hit on the Hot 100 in nine years.
“The King of Corridos” Gerardo Ortiz and Cuban group Gente de Zona will come together on the Billboard Latin Music Awards stage for a television debut. The Regional Mexican singer dominated the Billboard Regional Mexican Airplay list for two weeks with his latest song “Otra Borrachera” and has just released the official video for “Callada,” a single from his album Más Caro Que Ayer; while Gente de Zona recently celebrated the Platinum Record certification of their fifth album Otra Cosa, featuring the hits “Si No Vuelves,” “Te Duele,” “El Mentiroso,” and “Tan Buena.”
For the first time on television, Mexican siblings Jesse & Joy will perform their hit “Love (Es Nuestro Idioma)” which talks about violence against the LGBTQ community and seeks to raise awareness about the controversial practice of conversion therapy that is still taking place in Mexico and other parts of the world. “Love” is part of their album Aire which debuted in May on the Top 10 of the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart.
Panamanian reggaeton star Sech, who is up for seven awards, will also bring viewers a television premiere. A couple of months ago, the singer released 1 of 1, his most recent album, featuring collaborations by Daddy Yankee, Farruko, Zion and Lenox and Ozuna, and which ranked No. 4 on the Top Latin Albums chart.
The memorable evening will also feature a performance by Puerto Rican singer and producer Farruko, a finalist for ten awards, five of them for the hit song “Calma”, a successful collaboration with fellow Puerto Rican Pedro Capó, and another four for “Baila Baila,” a collaboration with Ozuna, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee and Anuel AA. Farruko’s most recent releases include “El Tiempo Pasa” and “La Tóxica.”
Fans will also enjoy musical performances by Puerto Rican reggaeton star Wisin and renowned rapper Myke Towers. Urban artist Wisin, along with Yandel, is a finalist for three awards, including Tropical Song of The Year for “Aullando,” and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group. Wisin has achieved nine No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Fellow Puerto Rican artist Myke Towers, collaborated with Prince Royce on the remix of his bachata hit “Carita de Inocente,” which remained at No.1 on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart for twelve consecutive weeks. His debut album Easy Money Baby topped the Top Latin Albums list, an unusual act on the first attempt and which had not been achieved since Bad Bunny did it with his album X100PRE. Both Wisin and Myke Towers have just collaborated on Ozuna’s new single “Enemigos Ocultos.”
The coveted music special will kick-off at 7pm/6c with the glamorous red carpet pre-show followed at 8pm/7c by the three-hour awards show featuring live performances by today’s top Latin artists to honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music. The awards will coincide with Billboard’s Latin Music Week, a three-day virtual experience dedicated to Latin music, culture, and entertainment.
