Izis La Enfermera De La Salsa / Salsa .IT Vol.15 by Nelson Rodriguez

Puerto Rican vocalist Isis Marie Nieves has been many things, including a nurse, that from a very young age was travelling the world with her father who was in the US Army. Her upbringing included a rich dose of musical knowledge stemming from her uncle Modesto Nieves and her cousin’s Monica (vocalist/composer) and Christian (cuatro) who were part of the uncle’s band.

In 2017 Izis La Enfermera De La Salsa made her recording debut with a combination of ‘salsa romantica’ that generated “Amor Gitano”, “Mirame Bien” and “Que De Mi” (written by her cousin Monica Nieves) that showed much promise for commercial radio. At the same time Izis showed a harder side of her vocal range with the songs I played at Alma Del Barrio “Te Curare” and “Homenaje a Puerto Rico”.

As a lover of Salsa In English a big winner for me was Izis’ version of the Janet Jackson hit “Anytime, Anyplace”. Her duet with Nino Segarra, “Tratando”, should do well at radio in Puerto Rico.

The Italian record label SALSA.IT has released for many years excellent compilations that has had changes over the years based on the likes of the Italian club scene and music lovers. Today the market is Salsa & Bachata and Volume 15 has some of the best young talent of local acts along with some licenses from other artists.

One key note about the Italian music market is comprised of many DJ’s creating music. Italy & France have become huge markets for Salsa and in Italy Bachata has grown immensely.

Of the Bachatas on volume 15 the standouts are Laura Luz featuring DJ Vins’ “Te Conoci Bailando”, Alcander featuring La Filosofia’s “Ahora Conmigo”, Maximo Music & MT DJ featuring Adonis Sensacion and DJ Pe’ & DJ Banderas featurring Adal.

The Salsa is well represented by the latest by Mercadonegra “Rumba Negrita”, Oeste 11 ”Salsa Y Candela” and Nestor Pacheco featuring DJ Marco Ghamo “Mi Cal Salsero”
