Puerto Rican vocalist Isis Marie Nieves has been many things, including a nurse, that from a very young age was travelling the world with her father who was in the US Army. Her upbringing included a rich dose of musical knowledge stemming from her uncle Modesto Nieves and her cousin’s Monica (vocalist/composer) and Christian (cuatro) who were part of the uncle’s band.
In 2017 Izis La Enfermera De La Salsa made her recording debut with a combination of ‘salsa romantica’ that generated “Amor Gitano”, “Mirame Bien” and “Que De Mi” (written by her cousin Monica Nieves) that showed much promise for commercial radio. At the same time Izis showed a harder side of her vocal range with the songs I played at Alma Del Barrio “Te Curare” and “Homenaje a Puerto Rico”.
As a lover of Salsa In English a big winner for me was Izis’ version of the Janet Jackson hit “Anytime, Anyplace”. Her duet with Nino Segarra, “Tratando”, should do well at radio in Puerto Rico.
