With over 30 years of experience as a percussionist, Gary Vera has established himself as a virtuoso in the realms of Plena, Bomba, Salsa and Latin Jazz. Born in Bronx, New York on February 8, 1961 and raised in the heart of Puerto Rico, Gary Vera was immersed in the rich musical traditions of the island from a young age.
His journey began with a deep passion for percussion, honing his skills on the panderos, bomba drum, congas, and other traditional instruments. Gary Vera quickly rose through the ranks, performing with artists and bands, both locally and internationally.
Driven by the desire to preserve and innovate upon Puerto Rico’s musical heritage, Gary Vera founded Bomplenéa, a groundbreaking ensemble dedicated to blending traditional rhythms with contemporary elements. As the director of Bomplenéa, Gary Vera has led the group to global acclaim, captivating audiences with their electrifying performances and innovative compositions.
In addition to his prowess as a performer, Gary Vera is also a prolific composer and producer, shaping the sound of modern latin music with his innovative arrangements and production techniques. His compositions have been earning him widespread recognition for his musical talent and creativity. Two outstanding productions available are Ritmo Caliente and Cultural Y Salseando.
