Today the Venezuelan Quintero name and the word percussion is synonymous to the legacy that is maintained at its highest standard by conguero Roberto Quintero and his cousin timbalero Luisito Quintero.
I met Luisito in the 80’s when he was a member of the Oscar D’ Leon Orchestra and the young man had star written all over him and he produced some great fusion CD’s with Little Louie Vega in the 2000’s. Roberto I met in in the 90’s while he was producing some great Latin Jazz CD’s. Today they lead their own band Quintero’s Salsa Project and continue that legacy in a tribute to one of Venezuela’s greatest bands…Dimension Latina.
Dimension Latina was created in 1972 with a classic trombone sound that resulted in many hits and the Quintero’s revisit some of those hits with that original sound on this new CD “Tributo a Dimension Latina” and vocalists Ruben Hernandez, Angel Delgado & Santiago Moyano.
Other guest vocalists include Argenis Carullo on “Ahi Na’Ma” and “Sin Tu Cariño” and Marcial Isturiz on “Irimo”, “De Quintero a Dimension” and “Parampampan” that features the cousins on percussion immolating the great co-founders Joseito Rodriguez and Elio Pacheco.
The CD also has some great improvisations by trombonists Rey David Alejandro on “Arroz Con Manteca” & “Te Conoci” and guest Jimmy Bosch on “Cara De Guabina” that also features a juicy piano solo by David Alastre.
As a follow-up to their 2018 debut, “Nuestro Hogar”, this new concept CD has placed itself as one of the finest recordings of 2020.
