El Condado De La Salsa y Jazz Latino Best Salsa Hits of 2025

Another year has gone by with many great recordings that were probably tripled by the number of bad recordings that came out in 2025. Some amazing big band recordings came out which and are rare these days, so fulfilling with their bold sound, but we get to enjoy only on a record. Some of these big bands do perform for fans but of the majority of this year’s recordings, the albums are for most parts a concept, and not active bands. That has to do with the sad state of the industry and the possibility of bands being able to be hired and paid as well as having venues to perform at.

Looking at the year in review the best Salsa albums we heard in 2025 include:

-Steven Oquendo Latin Jazz Orchestra “A Centennial Salute to Tito & Tito”- A band that has been performing in New York and is keeping the big band sounds of Tito Puente & Tito Rodriguez alive and well. Listening to ‘Machito Forever”, “El Que Se Fue”, “Mambo Inn”, “Agua Limpia Todo”, “Mama Guela” and “Babarabatiri” is a walk done memory lane and a way for today’s generation of new fans to appreciate what we old timers lived.

-Jose Fajardo Jr. “Diamante Homanaje Salssero a La Musica Del Rey De La Flauta Jose Fajardo” (75 Años)- The son of the legendary Jose Fajardo, who had one of the greatest charangas of all time, Fajardo y sus Estrellas, remakes his father’s hits not as charangas but as Salsa versions. This CD features guest vocalists Pedro Brull, Jose Alberto ‘El Canario’, Pedro Jesus, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Hansel y Raul and Danny Rojo. One of the highlights is the performance by flautist Eddy Zervigon of Orchestra Broadway fame.

-Ali Bello & The Charanga Syndicate- Ali Bello is a long-time veteran violinist that most recently was performing with the late John ‘Dandy’ Rodriguez Tipica 73 band. This recording is one of this year’s best Latin Jazz albums that also featured a few salsa tracks including the Orchestra Broadway super hit “Guarimpumpe” (an Elio Reve y su Charagon hit) that also features Eddy Zervigon. Performances by the new generation of Latin Jazz Cesar Orozco, Arturo O’Farrill, Silvano Monasterios, Marcus Persiani, Gabriel Chakarji, Manuel Marquez and Luis Mangual are highlights of this recording.

-Orchestra Fuego “Mambo Mania”- This active Florida band, led by pianist Marcus Hernandez (Fuego 77 in New York), continues to produce one smash hit after another and in this latest recording pays homage to the ‘Mambo’ with superb appearances by Izis La Enfermera De La Salsa, Diego Gale, Ray De La Paz, Jose Alberto ‘El Canario’, Betsy Lopez and Geomar Perez. Top tracks for your playlists: “Mambo Mania”, the Latin Jazz “The Tampa Mambo”, “Lose Control”, “Timbal Timbalero”, and “Lejos De Ti”.

-“Rumba Con Swing: Re-Creaciones De Chano Pozo” – This is a well-conceived production that revisits Chano Pozo’s music done by some of the best artists old and new. Thirteen tracks with that great Joaquin Betancourt as musical director and an all-star lineup that includes: Orquesta Aragon, Pancho Amat, Issac Delgado, Vocal Sampling, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Alejandro Falcon, Rolando Luna, Alexander Abreu, Yaroldy Abreu, Cucurucho Valdes, Mayito Rivera, Michel Herrera, Emilio Morales, Ernan Lopez-Nussa, Miguel Se Armas Jr. and many others. An excellent concept album!

-Jose Alberto ‘El Canario’ “Big Swing”- a compilation of El Canario’s big band swing that includes a few older tracks done with other artists that dancers will love. It’s the swinging sound of the Palladium in modern time with tunes like “Niña y Señora”, “Nego Ñañamboro”, “Tumba Tumbador”(done with Don Perignon y La Puertorriqueña), “El Mulata Rumbero”, “No Quiero Piedras En Mi Camino”, “La Escoba”, “Tiemblas” and “La Peleaona” (originally recorded with Yolanda Duke).

- Eduardo Zayas y su EZ La Banda “Salsa Con Perfume De Mujer”- A 2-CD set that was an idea Eduardo has since 2018 that features many of today’s talented women in Salsa with many future and current vocalist & instrumentalist stars: Veruska Verdu, Choco Orta, Perla Rodriguez, Trina Medina, Monica Castro, Zoilapianista, Lisett Morales, Rossy Lopez, May Peters, Karla Martinez, Mariana La Sonera, Yani Mercedes, Viviana Diaz, Issa La Roca, Kissis Muñoz, Tanisha Galarza, Fanny Almenera, Jessica Andrea Mosquera, Yarima Blanco, and Zuleika Martinez. Great swinging dance music from one of today’s prominent composers.

-“Salsa En La Bahia, Vol.3-Renegade Queens”- While only two of these tracks are current the CD is a compilation of the women, who for the past 50 years, have been the pulse of Latin music in the Bay Area. From Salsa, Afro-Cuban to Latin Jazz the various contributions can be seen in the film documentation that depicts the trailblazing talents and stories of The Renegade Queens, Kat Parra, The Blazing Redheads, Mary Fettig, Key Elements, Xiomara Torres, Bobi Cespedes, Christelle Durandy, Sandy Cressman and many others who Rita Hargrave presents in this 2_CD set produced by Wayne Wallace.

-Poncho Sanchez & His Latin Jazz Band “Live at The Belly Up Tavern”- recorded live in the Solana Beach (San Diego), California that showcases Poncho at his best with excellent support from the band members Francisco Torres, Ron Blake, Giancarlo Anderson, Andy Langham, Jose Perez, Tom Luer and Ross Schodek who provided a chemistry that will be part of music history.

-La Sonora de Diego Gale “Lo Que Tu Querias”- The first of two recordings Diego Gale made this year as a superb ‘Salsa Dura’ live session that features the vocals of Marcal Isturiz & Yoamys Jerez. For me it will be one of Gale’s best recordings of the past decade!

-Ruben Blades & Roberto Delgado y su Orquesta “Fotografias”- The legacy of great songwriting continues in this latest gem by Ruben and the Panamanian orchestra that cement themselves as part of this legacy. Songs include previous recorded titles by Ismael Miranda with Orchestra Harlow, Bobby Valentin, Johnny Kenton and songs Ruben did with Ray Barretto. What also makes this recording special is it has various formats of two trumpet, three trombones, orchestra and big band diversifying the sound of each track.

-CSAN-II “Fiesta Jazz The Album”- Only came out as a vinyl limited edition with a couple of new tracks that included “Fiesta Jazz” and “Jazzeando En El Valle”. As a compilation bassist/composer Celestino Sanchez did a keen job in selecting these great Latin Jazz tunes.

-Manuel Ramirez “Tributo a La Salsa Dura”- Peruvian tresero/vocalist presents classics by some of the legends (mostly on the Fania label) with his versions of “Barrunto” by Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe, “Busca Lo Tuyo” by Cheo Feliciano, “Al Mirarte A Ti” by Ismael Quintana, “Parece Menrira” by Roberto Roena y su Apollo Sound, “Naci Moreno” by Bobby Valentin, “Adelante Siempre Voy” by Ray Barretto & Adalberto Santiago, “El Rey De La Pentahalides” by the Fania All Stars and “Mi Negrita” by Mulenze.

-Issac Delgado “Mira Como Vengo”- Ex-vocalist from NG La Banda & Opus 13 has been recording with his unique vocal style that has made him one of Cuba’s best ambassadors and this new CD has one hit after another. Listen to the title track as well as the hit with Alain Perez “Tu Pensabas” plus “Son Tallas”, “De Lejitos”, “San Cristobal”, “Juegala Calma O’ and “Eso Que Dijiste”.

-Alain Perez “Bingo”- This recording dropped at about the same time as Issac Delgado’s and the hit has been the collaboration with Gilberto Santa Rosa “Andabas Tu”. Perez, who is also a premier bassist, adds other collaborations with Luis Enrique, Tito Nieves and Issac Delagdo on the title track “Bingo”.

-Jeremy Bosch “The Gospel According To Salsa”- What a wonderful blend of Bible verses with Afro-Caribbean music from the mind of vocalist Jeremy Bosch and some of the finest musicians: trombonist Doug Beavers, trumpeter Manuel ‘Maneco’ Ruiz, bassist Alex ‘Apolo’ Ayala, Edgar Castañeda on harp, percussionists Marcos Lopez & Marcos Torres, pianist Gabriel Chakarji, Ali Bello on violin and Felipe Fournier on vibes to name a few.

-Spanish Harlem Orchestra “Salsa Navidad”- A excellent variety of Christmas classics and original music that will please every fan of Fania’s “Asalto Navideño” series.

-Chucho Valdes Royal Quartet “Cuba & Beyond”- This giant of Latin Jazz never disappoints and with Horacio ‘El Negro’ Hernandez, Roberto Vizcaino Jr. and Jose Armando Gola backing him the quartet is outstanding in this gem that culminates Chucho’s 60th anniversary.
