Colombian film, theater, and television actress Májida Issa, who is known for series such as La Ronca de OroLa Guzmán and Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso as well as her musical career that has led her to be a Latin Grammy nominee, will co-present the Xcaret PLATINO Awards shoulder to shoulder with Mexican actor, host, and singer Omar Chaparro. Both will be on the stage of the Teatro Gran Tlacho de Xcaret, Rivera Maya (Mexico) on May 3rd where the seventh edition of the most important awards of Latin American cinema will be held.
Issa, who premiered the police series Operación Pacífico in the United States in February, achieved her first success thanks to her leading role in the series Corazones Blindados shortly after finishing her bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts at ENAT in Mexico, following in the footsteps of her grandmother, renowned actress Teresa Gutierrez. However, it was her next role in La Ronca de Oro that brought Issa international recognition and awards such as India Catalina, which is awarded in the framework of the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival. The production was broadcast in more than 25 countries, including Mexico and the US, and broke audience records in Colombia just like her following project: Lady la Vendedora de Rosas.
Shortly after, Issa took a trip to the dark side, playing the role of La Diabla in the successful series Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, the sequel to Sin Senos No Hay Paraíso and the Colombian version Sin Tetas No Hay Paraíso, adapted in Spain by Telecinco. For this role, she won the TV and Novelas Award and the Tu Mundo Award as best villain, consolidating herself as one of the strongest actresses in the Latin entertainment industry.
Music has always been important to Issa since she took her first steps into the artistic world. She performed as great artists such as Helenita Vargas on television and Chavela Vargas in a stage musical for which she received high praise from audiences and Latin critics alike. After many years performing in musicals in Colombia, she decided to release her first solo album entitled Nocturna, an album comprised of original songs and some hits from the ranchera music of Helenita Vargas and Juan Gabriel. The album garnered her a Latin Grammy nomination, becoming the first singer in the musical history of Colombia nominated in the ranchero genre.
Music and the acting also took her to the stage with Planchando el Despecho, a concert in which she shared the stage with four great Colombian actresses and singers and that has taken her through more than two hundred Colombian stages on a tour that has lasted four consecutive years. Additionally, her musical prowess earned her the role of Mexican singer Alejandra Guzmán in the biopic series about her life: La Guzmán. Guzman herself applauded her interpretation.
Currently, Issa is preparing what will be her second album and her fifth film project.
Nominations will be announced on March 18th at 10am PST.
