This Is The Second Single From Vives’ Album Cumbiana To Be Released May 22
GRAMMY® winners Carlos Vives of Colombia, and Alejandro Sanz of Spain, team up for the super duet “For Sale,” available today. It’s the second single from Vives’ forthcoming 14th album Cumbiana, to be released May 22.
This melancholic but romantic song fuses urban-pop and dance-friendly cumbia rhythms. “For Sale” tells the story of a man whose gamble on love affects him for the rest of his life. As Vives points out, “It’s about betting on love and dying in the process, but it has an important message – love can’t be based on material things. This song encompasses a broken heart, a puya rhythm played on the gaita flute that came down from Colombia’s Montes de María to search for Alejandro Sanz around by the Guadalquivir River, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and the Doñana National Park. They tell me that he was picked up by gitanos and sent to South America with a ticket labeled ‘To the New Andalusia.”
Filmed in Bogotá, the music video is directed by Nuno Gomes and portrays a typical garage sale as a way to move on after a breakup. It stars the journalist and actress Ana María Trujillo, who becomes a mirage-like presence after going through a divorce and a farewell. Click HERE to watch the video:
Vives’ upcoming album Cumbiana is the singer-songwriter’s exploration of the roots of the cumbia rhythm that originated in his country. Its 10 songs represent the most diverse collection of music that Vives has recorded to date, incorporating styles from salsa to reggaetón, while preserving his signature accordion-anchored vallenato style. Recording sessions took place in the USA, UK, Spain and Colombia.

Cumbiana gives Vives the opportunity to bring the cumbia into the 2020s. Its sound maintains the rootsy, African and indigenous sensibility of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, while incorporating cutting-edge Latino sounds. Vives brings together past and present, and is joined by such collaborators as the legendary Alejandro Sanz and Rubén Blades “Canción Para Rubén”. He also duets with the rising Colombian-Canadian talent Jessie Reyez on “Hechicera” and the Jamaican great Ziggy Marley on “El Hilo.”
The first single from Cumbiana, titled “No Te Vayas,” recently became Vives’ 19th Top 10 hit on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart. Recorded in a vallenato-pop style, it is produced by Vives, Martín Melilla and Andrés Leal. Written by Vives, it reached #1 on the airplay charts in Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Panamá, Honduras, Chile and the Dominican Republic. Its music video has surpassed 15 million views on YouTube.
